RM is the market leader in providing IT Solutions to the UK Education sector, and due to expansion we are looking for a talented Support Engineer with Windows 2003, Active Directory and SQL skills to join us in the support and development of our mission critical systems. This role is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Support Engineer to gain exposure to a vast array of technologies within an enterprise level environment, and offers training opportunities and the chance to gain certifications such as the MCSE / MCTS / MCITP / MCDBA, whilst working at the cutting edge of technology in a hugely rewarding role. The role will involve: - Technical support in our Windows 2003 based environment, including Active Directory, IIS, DNS, DHCP, LANs / WANs & TCP/IP
- Supporting our high volume, high transaction SQL Server 2005 databases.
- Working with complex escalations.You’ll be carrying out in depth analysis and investigation of customer escalations, live systems issues and-data related issues within the SQL Server database.
- Database performance monitoring and tuning of stored procedures, functions and triggers.
- Installing and configuring new environments for demos and pilot projects as well as deploying new or upgraded production environments.
- Working closely with the development and testing teams to contribute to technical design and hardware requirements processes.
- Backup and restores of development and testing databases.
- Taking on project work, for example developing and setting up new environments and systems for new customers and projects.
The individual: - Of graduate calibre with experience of developing or supporting Microsoft based solutions.
- A technical background encompassing some or several of the following: Windows 2000 / 2003 / 2008, Active Directory, IIS, DNS, DHCP, LANs / WANs, TCP/IP, XML, XSLT and SQL Server 2000 / 2005.
- SQL Server database design skills would be advantageous but are not essential as RM will support you in developing these.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Solid problem solving skills with strong attention to detail.
- Passionate about delivering an outstanding customer experience.
- Flexible approach and the ability to make a real contribution to the team in a fast-paced and challenging environment
In return for your efforts you can expect a basic salary of £25,000 - £34,000, bonus, pension scheme, BUPA, life assurance, discounted childcare vouchers and 25 days holiday, with an additional extra holiday purchase scheme.
