We are looking for talented Linux / Cisco Systems Engineers to join a vibrant office based team that implement, manage and support the technical infrastructure (Windows / Linux / Cisco) that is pivotal in providing millions of Education sector users with world-class innovative Internet-based solutions. This team provide 24x7 support in order to keep the internet safe for thousands of pupils using customised filter list on proxies, as well as making sure the web caches are all working to the highest of standards. You will also be responsible for supporting revolutionary solutions, from client-server networks to online virtual learning platforms such as “GLOW,” the national school intranet that is set to transform Scotland’s education system and it’s 800,000 users. The role requires a tenacious and imaginative approach to problem solving and provides an opportunity to work with an ever expanding, broad array of technologies, including Linux servers, Cisco routers, Firewalls, TCP/IP, DNS, proxies, and email servers. Key responsibilities: - Provide proactive day to day management and support for Internet related telecoms, server, router, firewall and back up systems within a highly pressurised and results orientated environment.
- Providing direct support to customers by resolving escalated support issues.
- Proactively managing, tracking and resolving issues, change controls, bespoke project roll-outs and live faults escalated into and out of the systems team.
- Maintaining a high level of availability of services and minimise the risk of exposure to system downtime through continual monitoring of key systems.
- Troubleshooting of 24x7 hosted services to 8000+ customer networks. Will require two ‘on call’ shifts per month, for which you will receive an additional paid shift allowance and overtime payments for calls taken.
The Individual: - Of Graduate calibre with experience of developing or supporting a variety of operating systems, such as MS Windows, UNIX / Linux.
- Experience with Cisco router and switches, Cisco IOS, Intel-based server hardware, TCP/IP, DNS and other Internet related technologies, such as proxies, web caches and email servers.
- Excellent planning, problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer handling skills.
- Passionate about delivering excellence in customer service, technical projects and day-to-day work.
- Flexibility and a positive work ethic in all circumstances.
