ALSTOM GRID UK Ltd - Power Electronics HVDC and FACTS,Staffordis an international leader in Power Electronics and Control Technology, specialising in the engineering of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Transmission Systems, Static VAR Compensators (SVC) and other FACTS Systems for power utilities worldwide.
The Role
To carry out engineering activities required to deliver the control and HMI system for a specific project on time and to budget. The purpose of the Control Systems department is to design, supply, test and commission complete real-time control systems for HVDC installations.
Responsible for performing hardware or software maintenance, enhancements, design and/or development tasks to support project delivery.
Performs module design and resolves implementations issues with the project engineer.
Completes advanced design, integration and testing of project deliverables.
Responsible for system integration and internal testing.
Contribute towards design/code peer review, and ensure best practise is followed.
Gathers information for and prepares software and system level documentation - architectural / hardware or software design specifications.
Defines and implements new functionality in applications.
The Person
Educational Requirements
Post Graduate Degree in relevant subject - computer science / electrical & electronic engineering.
Good Programming skills in C, C++
Experience in DSP and Real Time Ops Sys Development
Experience with configuration in hardware/software design and implementation.
Experience of model based design/Matlab
Experience
Design and Implementation of hardware and/or software in the power system domain.
Design new functions/equipment under the supervision of the project technical lead.
Self-initiative, team oriented (ability to work as part of a project team0, good communication and reporting skills.
Good understanding of power systems and/or energy management systems.
Ability to write customer-oriented technical documents.
Knowledge of complete hardware/software development life cycle.
Good Programming skills in C, C++ (high level language experience desirable)

Lean engineering or similar methodologies
