Skills & Requirements
First and foremost you need to have the right character and attitude; we have a truly cross-functional and highly-collaborative environment and whether you're a graduate trainee or a CIO we expect you to get involved! We're also a rapidly growing and evolving global business so we're looking for people with ambition, people who aren't happy sitting back and enjoying the status-quo, but people who want to grow and challenge themselves, who want to work creatively and create world leading products with the latest technology.
There is of course a base-line of skills that we need and you should be able to demonstrate solid skills in the following:
•Microsoft SQL 2005/2008/2012
•Microsoft Office 2003 – 2010
•Microsoft Windows XP/7/2003 Server/2008 Server
•ASP/ASP.NET Web Applications
•Exposure to programming languages
In terms of general fit we’re seeking somebody who is:
•Able to cope under pressure
So who are RBI?
As one interviewee put it some years ago we’re “the biggest company you’ve never heard of”! To be more specific we’re a global online media and information business cited amongst the world’s top-100 ‘online superpowers’. We have an international portfolio of market leading products that spans Western Europe, North America, China, Singapore, Australia and beyond; we’re also part of the FTSE100 Reed Elsevier Group, a global media and publishing group with a history spanning over 100 years and revenues in the region of $10bn.
What’s it like to work here?
Outstanding, and I say that as somebody with seven years’ service here! You’ve probably already got a feel for what we do and the technology we’re involved with but what’s really stands us out from the crowd is our culture. We’re a company who understands the importance of looking after our staff; these days, particularly in and around London, there are far too many companies who expect their employees to deliver ‘whatever the cost’ and so often we meet candidates who are sick of long hours and high stress for precious little thanks or recognition. We’re a family and work-life-balance focused company where the emphasis is firmly on personal and career development balanced with good working hours, loads of holiday (29 days 2 charity days!), and a low-pressure culture. In addition to all of this we offer the following 'core' benefits:
- 29 days holiday
- 2 paid charity days (as a business we do a lot of charity work)
- Pension and life assurance scheme
- SAYE Share Options Scheme
There are also AIP (bonus), car allowance, and medical benefits available at more senior levels within the business.
And what about your career?
Career development is a big thing for us and we take out PDP (personal development plan) process very seriously; we want you to learn and progress quickly in the direction you want to go and we will provide you with the training and support to achieve that at the right pace. The great thing about us career-wise is that we’re a company made up of leading online businesses so you can develop in three dimensions, vertically through the business, across different brands, and across different functions (if you fancy a change). We’re also an increasingly international business and are often able to offer overseas opportunities either as secondments or on a permanent basis.
