BBC Worldwide have had an opportunity arise for new member to join our Server and Storage team, providing 3rd line server or storage support. This is a permanent position based at BBC Media Centre, White City.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a passionate technologist to become a key member of the team, providing operating system and hardware support to the BBC Worldwide global server and storage estate.
The server estate consists of approximately 700 servers, across 20 sites. Predominantly based on Wintel platforms, with a vast majority of them virtualised.
To provide technical support in both a proactive and reactive manner, ensuring systems are stable and performing within the terms of their respective Service Level Agreements.
To design and implement new server or storage infrastructure, as well as provide day-to-day monitoring, capacity planning and management of the existing estate.
To evaluate and apply any necessary operating system security patches, hotfixes, service packs and hardware updates.
Providing out of hours, on-call support for critical systems on a shift rota basis and, where necessary, work the occasional weekend/evening to perform maintenance, upgrades, and repairs or troubleshooting.
Knowledge & Skills
Hands on experience in working with Microsoft Active Directory Services at a 3rd line level.
A general understanding of Networking technologies.
Experience in working with VMware ESXi and Windows server 2003/2008 R2 operating systems.
Working knowledge of monitoring solutions, such as: Microsoft SCOM and HP SIM.
A good understanding of HP Blade technologies including HP Virtual Connect.
Has previously worked with backup products, such as Symantec Netbackup or Microsoft DPM.Experience in installing, supporting and maintaining server and storage hardware.
Experience in any other server operating system support.
Working knowledge of NetApp technologies.
Working knowledge of automated deployment technologies, specifically used to deploy Windows based operating systems. SCCM knowledge advantageous.Hands on experience working with Fibre Channel fabrics, such as Cisco MDS.
Microsoft MCSE, Netapp or any Vmware certifications would be advantageous.
